When will mankind be convinced and agree to settle their difficulties by arbitration?

Diplomacy: the art of restraining power.

An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

The lion and the calf shall lie down together but the calf won’t get much sleep.

Arguments are to be avoided: they are always vulgar and often convincing.

Always remember that your calmness under fire is your best defense in any argument or discussion.

Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings about momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace.

Don’t hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

We will stand up for our friends in the world. And one of the most important friends is the State of Israel. My administration will be steadfast in support Israel against terrorism and violence, and in seeking the peace for which all Israelis pray.

Take no thought of who is right or wrong or who is better than. Be not for or against.

Clean fighting solves everything. It ends all bad blood and any ill feelings people have. That’s my thoughts.

You can’t make war in the Middle East without Egypt and you can’t make peace without Syria.

President Assad, I worked with. I know him reasonably well, met with him a few times, and he’s a liar.

For diplomacy to be effective, words must be credible – and no one can now doubt the word of America.

Meditation is not to avoid society; it is to look deep to have the kind of insight you need to take action. To think that it is just to sit down and enjoy the calm and peace, is wrong.

War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children.

If you have an enemy, then learn and know your enemy, don’t just be mad at him or her.

I’m married. My wife, Stella – a beautiful woman. She’s brought a lot of peace to my life, a lot of wisdom.

In remembering the appalling suffering of war on both sides, we recognise how precious is the peace we have built in Europe since 1945.

Our diplomacy and development budget is not just about reducing spending and finding efficiencies. We need a frank conversation about what we stand for as that ‚shining city on a hill.‘ And that conversation begins by acknowledging that we can’t do it on the cheap.

Many people feel so pressured by the expectations of others that it causes them to be frustrated, miserable and confused about what they should do. But there is a way to live a simple, joy-filled, peaceful life, and the key is learning how to be led by the Holy Spirit, not the traditions or expectations of man.

Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind.

Our peace shall stand as firm as rocky mountains.

I’m not claiming divinity. I’ve never claimed purity of soul. I’ve never claimed to have the answers to life. I only put out songs and answer questions as honestly as I can… But I still believe in peace, love and understanding.

Consider, when you are enraged at any one, what you would probably think if he should die during the dispute.

And so I think that the idea of America working with other countries to solve problems is good for us, and it is part of digging us out of the ‚my way or the highway‘ approach that was evident in the previous eight years.

He that would live in peace and at ease must not speak all he knows or all he sees.

A good conscience is a continual Christmas.

It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it.

The proper study of Mankind is Man.

I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness; I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too. I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more.

I’m not interested in more political or cultural combat.

There should be an honest attempt at the reconciliation of differences before resorting to combat.

The world knows that America will never start a war. This generation of Americans has had enough of war and hate… we want to build a world of peace where the weak are secure and the strong are just.

Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.

China and the U.S. need each other very badly. Yes, we should argue about some things, but it’s not an ‚us versus them,‘ it’s an ‚us and them‘ type scenario.

My first wish is to see this plague of mankind, war, banished from the earth.

I don’t know why you use a fancy French word like detente when there’s a good English phrase for it – cold war.

Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies – or else? The chain reaction of evil – hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars – must be broken, or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

If you do not understand a man you cannot crush him. And if you do understand him, very probably you will not.
