This is me, a sinner on whom the Lord has turned his gaze. And this is what I said when they asked me if I would accept my election as pontiff. I am a sinner, but I trust in the infinite mercy and patience of our Lord Jesus Christ, and I accept in a spirit of penance.

When we enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, something wonderful happens: God begins to change our desires, and we want to be more like Him.

And frankly, I don’t understand – I mean, I’m obviously a card-carrying Democrat – but I can’t understand why any woman would want to vote for Mitt Romney, except maybe Mrs. Romney.

Democracy substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few.

The finest workers in stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time.

I have learned that I really do have discipline, self-control, and patience. But they were given to me as a seed, and it’s up to me to choose to develop them.

Don’t complain. The Israelites wasted forty years murmuring and complaining in the wilderness, when they could have just obeyed God and entered into their Promised Land.

Being elected to Congress, though I am very grateful to our friends for having done it, has not pleased me as much as I expected.

Truth, according to the Christian faith, is God’s love for us in Jesus Christ. Therefore, truth is a relationship.

All great achievements require time.

Patience is not simply the ability to wait – it’s how we behave while we’re waiting.

A prisoner of war is a man who tries to kill you and fails, and then asks you not to kill him.

In the end, that’s what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope?

We hand folks over to God’s mercy, and show none ourselves.

Manners require time, and nothing is more vulgar than haste.

People who don’t know the true character of God – who don’t believe He is merciful, gracious and slow to anger – can never have a close, personal, intimate relationship with Him.

Patience is key for getting over a breakup. That, and trailing off your interaction after the breakup.

Genius is patience.

An election is a moral horror, as bad as a battle except for the blood; a mud bath for every soul concerned in it.

Our friends at the Republican convention were more than happy to talk about everything they think is wrong with America, but they didn’t have much to say about how they’d make it right. They want your vote, but they don’t want you to know their plan.

The word ‚Christianity‘ is already a misunderstanding – in reality there has been only one Christian, and he died on the Cross.

Remember, it is not about voting for the perfect candidate – there is no such thing. Presidents are human.

God made and governs the world invisibly, and has commanded us to love and worship him and no other God; to honor our parents and masters, and love our neighbours as ourselves; and to be temperate, just, and peaceable, and to be merciful even to brute beasts.

The Israelites‘ slavery in Egypt is the equivalent of our slavery to sin. God sent Moses to deliver them from bondage, and He sent Jesus Christ to set us free.

I hope that no American will waste his franchise and throw away his vote by voting either for me or against me solely on account of my religious affiliation. It is not relevant.

Patience is a virtue, and I’m learning patience. It’s a tough lesson.

Do not be in a hurry to succeed. What would you have to live for afterwards? Better make the horizon your goal; it will always be ahead of you.

Nothing can make injustice just but mercy.

Sometimes if you jump into something too quickly, you can screw up something that might have been good two years down the road.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

Human judges can show mercy. But against the laws of nature, there is no appeal.

God’s mercy and grace give me hope – for myself, and for our world.

Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.
