When I started Virgin from a basement in west London, there was no great plan or strategy. I was approached about having my own network many, many years ago. There were some people who wanted to start up a network, and I didn’t want to get that involved in the business aspect of it.

Starting a business is not for everyone. Starting a business – I’d say, number one is have a high pain threshold.

For a successful entrepreneur it can mean extreme wealth. But with extreme wealth comes extreme responsibility. And the responsibility for me is to invest in creating new businesses, create jobs, employ people, and to put money aside to tackle issues where we can make a difference.

I want to rethink ‚surrender‘ as an active verb.
