So like any football or basketball coach, you always always believe you’re going to win.

Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence. In other words, it is war minus the shooting.

A coach, especially at a college level – much more at a college or high school level, than at a pro level – you’re more of a teacher than an actual coach.

I’ve always been privileged to play for Coach Belichick, who I’ve always said is the best coach in the history of the league.

I’ve married somebody who I knew for 14 years. So, I’m just living with a friend. All through my ups and downs in football, from winning the I-League to losing the ISL final, she has been a source of great support.

We were the first generation to have to deal with the modern stardom of football. Some handled it better than others.

When I was in Portugal I hardly played six-or-seven matches. Although I would train daily to keep my shape. Even then it was really difficult when I came back to get in shape and represent my country.

I rate Fabien Barthez and played with two great keepers in Alex Stepney and Harry Gregg.

I expected to be a pretty good NBA point guard and hopefully win a championship. But MVP and all this stuff? Not really.

Where would I be without baseball? Who am I without baseball?

I’ve taken countless shots in my life, so you know the ones when you’re in rhythm, with a perfect release, and it’s on track, that it’s going in.

I try to encourage all my teammates, and I sure hope that some day all athletes – my kids, high school kids – get the same level of care I get. Because you can play for a long period of time without having knee replacements, without having all the major head trauma that people are dealing with.

When did I know I had talent? I think it started when I first started playing sports, organized sports.

I plan on taking athletics as far as I can.
