My job is to play quarterback, and I’m going to do that the best way I know how, because I owe that to my teammates regardless of who is out there on the field with me.

Since day one, since the first time I touched the pen, I wanted to be the best at what I do.

I can’t deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring. And beyond that, it would be an opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives on a global scale. But there are a lot of other things I want to do first.

But innovation comes from people meeting up in the hallways or calling each other at 10:30 at night with a new idea, or because they realized something that shoots holes in how we’ve been thinking about a problem.

All leaders in the Lord’s Church are called by proper authority. No prophet or any other leader in this Church, for that matter, has ever called himself or herself. No prophet has ever been elected.

I have surrounded myself with very smart people.

In England, you have stadiums in the middle of the city.

Many people, including some conservatives, have been very impressed with how brainy the president and his advisers are. But that is not quite as reassuring as it might seem.

Of all the things I’ve done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.

My celebrity status allows me an opportunity, allows me a pulpit to preach and reach out to the people. Not even always preaching but just leading, motivating them by being a leader.

When there is a lack of honor in government, the morals of the whole people are poisoned.

I see myself as the best footballer in the world. If you don’t believe you are the best, then you will never achieve all that you are capable of.

Before I became a chief minister, I never thought that one day I’d be the chief minister.

There will be no end to the troubles of states, or of humanity itself, till philosophers become kings in this world, or till those we now call kings and rulers really and truly become philosophers, and political power and philosophy thus come into the same hands.

Personally, I’d like to see more of our leaders take a technocratic approach to solving our biggest problems.

I can make more generals, but horses cost money.

I’m not a fast thinker, but once I am interested in something, I am doing it for many years.

We will naturally pursue our goals on the strength of our own resources, skills and enterprise. But, we know that we will be more successful when we do this in partnership with the world.

Never let your ego get so close to your position that when your position goes, your ego goes with it.

Fighting football, not serenity football – that is what I like.
