I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know?

I just use fashion as an excuse to talk about politics. Because I’m a fashion designer, it gives me a voice, which is really good.

Fashion breaks my heart.

Fashion has become so whatever. I don’t think there are any stones left to unturn.

My son has followed fashion since he was a punk. He and I agree that fashion is about sex.

I think I’ve revived the costume-jewelry industry.

Fashion is life-enhancing, and I think it’s a lovely, generous thing to do for other people.

I’m not sure what I think about current fashion, though. A few years ago, I would have said it’s really, really bad and you hardly ever see anybody looking good. There must be some very good designers in the world.

I was impressed with what someone like Karl Lagerfeld built and did and the house that he made, but there was never really a female figure I wanted to emulate.

Everyone wants to know and hopes I retire so they can get the jobs. But my contracts with Fendi and Chanel are lifelong.

I didn’t consider myself a fashion designer at all at the time of punk. I was just using fashion as a way to express my resistance and to be rebellious. I came from the country, and by the time I got to London, I considered myself to be very stupid. It was my ambition to understand the world I live in.

I thank Marc Jacobs so much for giving me the opportunity to design a shoe for Louis Vuitton, but the thing that broke my heart most was when they said, ‚You’re finished. The shoe’s finished.‘

The story with anorexic girls – nobody works with anorexic girls. That has nothing to do with fashion.

The stylish kids on the street, they’re the ones that set the trends. The designers see what they’re doing and go and design their line and sell it back to the same kids, and it’s like, why not go directly to the source?

I never look at fashion magazines. I find them incredibly boring.
