I started to make a study of the art of war and revolution and, whilst abroad, underwent a course in military training. If there was to be guerrilla warfare, I wanted to be able to stand and fight with my people and to share the hazards of war with them.

I’d read up on the history of our country and I’d become fascinated with the story of the Alamo. To me it represented the fight for freedom, not just in America, but in all countries.

We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we will always be free.

Americans play to win at all times. I wouldn’t give a hoot and hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost nor ever lose a war.

Workers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains.

Fidel Castro, whatever people may think of him, is a hero in Latin America, primarily because he stood up to the United States.

I cannot lead you into battle. I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else – I can give my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.

It is important to emphasize that guerrilla warfare is a war of the masses, a war of the people. The guerrilla band is an armed nucleus, the fighting vanguard of the people. It draws its great force from the mass of the people themselves.

It’s like a muscle – if you stop going to the gym or stop running, you get weak. The military teaches you these great values, but we don’t keep up the discipline on our own, and we lose it. So wherever you go, keep that discipline up.

Each nation feels superior to other nations. That breeds patriotism – and wars.

Patriot: the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about.

Poetry is the lifeblood of rebellion, revolution, and the raising of consciousness.

During bad circumstances, which is the human inheritance, you must decide not to be reduced. You have your humanity, and you must not allow anything to reduce that. We are obliged to know we are global citizens. Disasters remind us we are world citizens, whether we like it or not.

Remember that the revolution is what is important, and each one of us, alone, is worth nothing.

We didn’t crumble after 9/11. We didn’t falter after the Boston Marathon. But we’re America. Americans will never, ever stand down. We endure. We overcome. We own the finish line.

Americans love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle.

This generation of Americans has a rendezvous with destiny.

I began revolution with 82 men. If I had to do it again, I do it with 10 or 15 and absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and plan of action.

The first step in the evolution of ethics is a sense of solidarity with other human beings.

When trouble breaks out, our men and women in uniform, they don’t just sit around thinking about it or talking about it – they act. They put on that uniform. They leave their loved ones behind. They go out there. They give orders. They follow orders. They do whatever it takes to keep our country safe.

Whenever you hear a man speak of his love for his country, it is a sign that he expects to be paid for it.

Unfortunately, after Sept. 11, there was an outburst in America of intense suffering and patriotism, and the Bush administration was very shrewd and effective in painting anyone who disagreed with the policies as unpatriotic or even traitorous.

Posture for combat is so vital.

The walls, the bars, the guns and the guards can never encircle or hold down the idea of the people.

We can have no ’50-50′ allegiance in this country. Either a man is an American and nothing else, or he is not an American at all.

Saudi Arabia has allowed training on its soil of American forces.

If you get to a point where the existing institutions will not bend to the popular will, you have to eliminate the institutions.

Gold is good in its place; but loving, brave, patriotic men are better than gold.

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

How wonderful it is to be an American. We have known the best of times and the worst of times.
