We’ve got to keep our eye on what’s happening with Russia and North Korea. We cannot lose sight of domestic policy, either. Healthcare. Immigration. Climate change.

Wise and humane management of the patient is the best safeguard against infection.

The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.

If a patient is cold, if a patient is feverish, if a patient is faint, if he is sick after taking food, if he has a bed-sore, it is generally the fault not of the disease, but of the nursing.

You know we’re going to control the insurance companies.

As a medical doctor, I have known the face of adversity. I have seen much of death and dying, suffering and sorrow. After a century of trying, we declared that healthcare in America is not a privilege for a few, it is a right for everybody. After decades of talk, we finally began to wean ourselves off foreign oil. We doubled our production of clean energy. We brought more of our troops home to their families, and we delivered justice to Osama bin Laden.

A doctor gave a man six months to live. The man couldn’t pay his bill, so he gave him another six months.

Cure sometimes, treat often, comfort always.

When I was president, I announced and I still maintain that I can live with Roe v. Wade. I think every abortion is a result of a horrible series of errors on the part of people involved.

I think that that’s the wisest thing – to prevent illness before we try to cure something.

You know capitalism is this wonderful thing that motivates people, it causes wonderful inventions to be done. But in this area of diseases of the world at large, it’s really let us down.

For Africa to move forward, you’ve really got to get rid of malaria.

Extreme remedies are very appropriate for extreme diseases.

The very elements of what constitutes good nursing are as little understood for the well as for the sick. The same laws of health or of nursing, for they are in reality the same, obtain among the well as among the sick.

What charitable 1 percenters can’t do is assume responsibility – America’s national responsibilities: the care of its sick and its poor, the education of its young, the repair of its failing infrastructure, the repayment of its staggering war debts.

Treatment without prevention is simply unsustainable.

Cancer is still a word that strikes fear into people’s hearts, producing a deep sense of powerlessness. But today it is possible to find out through a blood test whether you are highly susceptible to breast and ovarian cancer, and then take action.

It seems sensible to me that we should look to the medical profession, that over the centuries has helped us to live longer and healthier lives, to help us die peacefully among our loved ones in our own home without a long stay in God’s waiting room.

Medical costs are of concern, both in developing and developed countries.

It’s a disgrace that we have millions of people who are uninsured.

Who of us has not had that situation where you’ve got to wait for approval, and the doctor says, ‚Well, I don’t know if your insurance company is going to cover this?‘ Let’s eliminate all of that.

It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it.

That’s what the Affordable Care Act is all about. It’s about filling the gaps in employer-based care so that when we lose a job, or go back to school, or start that new business, we’ll still have coverage.

I am dying from the treatment of too many physicians.
