All compromise is based on give and take, but there can be no give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender. For it is all give and no take.

I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present. God has given me no control over the moment following.

God just has a way of working things out the way he wants to and you have no say in that.

The word ‚Islam‘ means ‚peace.‘ The word ‚Muslim‘ means ‚one who surrenders to God.‘ But the press makes us seem like haters.

I want to rethink ‚surrender‘ as an active verb.

Always say ‚yes‘ to the present moment… Surrender to what is. Say ‚yes‘ to life – and see how life starts suddenly to start working for you rather than against you.

I am not promising that God will give you everything you want. There are times when we want things that God knows would not be good for us.

All government, indeed every human benefit and enjoyment, every virtue, and every prudent act, is founded on compromise and barter.

Democracy is our commitment. It is our great legacy, a legacy we simply cannot compromise. Democracy is in our DNA.

Control and surrender have to be kept in balance. That’s what surfers do – take control of the situation, then be carried, then take control. In the last few thousand years, we’ve become incredibly adept technically. We’ve treasured the controlling part of ourselves and neglected the surrendering part.
