When I was young, many people worked for a company with a pension plan that covered them for as long as they lived. If they didn’t have a pension plan, they could count on Social Security and Medicare.

Social Security is based on a principle. It’s based on the principle that you care about other people. You care whether the widow across town, a disabled widow, is going to be able to have food to eat.

People need to be insured so when you have an accident out there, or when something catastrophic happens to you, that you’re covered and there’s not someone else has to pay for you. That is as simple as that.

Money’s important. Everyone cares about money. And when you don’t have money, money becomes the overriding obsession of your life.

I’m focusing on me. I’m focusing on my family’s security, my family’s financial security, so that’s all I can do.

Prosperity is the best protector of principle.

Demographics show that we are entering a battle between young and old. I call it the ‚Age War.‘ The young want to hang onto their money to grow their families, businesses, and wealth. The old want the tax and investment dollars of the young to sustain their old age.

I want to retire and want to be able to live out my days financially secure. That’s what everyone wants.

Many people will have nothing at the end of their working lives.

I still love football, though, and I think cooking is like football. It’s not a job, it’s a passion. When you become good at it, it’s a dream job and financially you need never to worry. Ever.

I want to be financially secure by the time I have kids.

It was the labor movement that helped secure so much of what we take for granted today. The 40-hour work week, the minimum wage, family leave, health insurance, Social Security, Medicare, retirement plans. The cornerstones of the middle-class security all bear the union label.

Working hard to earn more money and then giving it away in higher taxes isn’t financially intelligent, even if you do put some of it into a retirement account.

Social Security’s not the hard one to solve. Medicare, that is the gorilla in the room, and you’ve got to put all of it on the table.

I just want to retire before I go senile because if I don’t retire before I go senile, then I’ll do more damage than good at that point.

An active investor is someone who actually lives off their investments as opposed to wages from a job.

I will never turn Medicare into a voucher. No American should ever have to spend their golden years at the mercy of insurance companies. They should retire with the care and dignity they have earned.

We will keep the promise of Social Security by taking the responsible steps to strengthen it – not by turning it over to Wall Street.

Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.

We can’t get to the $4 trillion in savings that we need by just cutting the 12 percent of the budget that pays for things like medical research and education funding and food inspectors and the weather service. And we can’t just do it by making seniors pay more for Medicare.

There are major efforts being made to dismantle Social Security, the public schools, the post office – anything that benefits the population has to be dismantled. Efforts against the U.S. Postal Service are particularly surreal.

I am very concerned about the millions of baby boomers who are counting on the stock market to deliver them a safe, sound, long retirement. I am afraid the baby boomers who are counting on the stock market are in trouble.

Wealth is well known to be a great comforter.

There are three faithful friends – an old wife, an old dog, and ready money.

The effort to try to present the Social Security program as if it’s a major problem, that’s just a hidden way of trying to undermine and destroy it.

It is better to have a permanent income than to be fascinating.

No matter how you cut it, this real debate on personal accounts is about the legitimacy of Social Security; it’s not about the solvency of Social Security.

I haven’t been as wild with my money as somebody like me might have been. I’ve been very safe, very conservative with investments. I don’t blow money. I don’t have a ton of houses. I know things can go away. I’ve already had that experience.

I’ve got all the money I’ll ever need, if I die by four o’clock.
