Basically, I wear sandals, like Jesus. When it gets cold in Chicago, the snow way up to my knees, I still wear my sandals. But that’s me.

I’ve said this time and again: My greatest concern coming into the White House was making sure my girls came out whole and normal, and decent and kind, just like I would expect them to if we were living on the South Side of Chicago. And it takes work to keep White House life normal for the kids.

Probably my first couple years in the league, I started paying more attention to what I was wearing. Once I got a few bucks in my pocket and I could afford some nice things, and you get to go, ‚OK, let’s try some of these things.‘ And once you try something you like, you probably don’t change it much.

Eat to please thyself, but dress to please others.

When I get dressed, it’s like freestyling.

My shopping habits… I am not very brand-conscious about clothes. I buy whatever looks good on me. Likewise, I don’t just shop only in malls or high-end stores.

My style advice to other girls is to be experimental but always have a ‚home base‘ and stick with your comfort style.

Stylistically, I love make-up. I love doing my own make-up and stuff, but clothes-wise, I actually didn’t ever really care. Initially the fashion world was more interested in me than the music world, which was strange when I first started singing.

I’m a trained fine artist. I went to art school from the time I was 5 years old. I was, like, a prodigy out of Chicago. I’d been in national competitions from the age of 14.

My style offstage is so different from onstage. I love a pair of sexy heels with jeans, a nice jacket, or a little dress.

I dressed more like a pop star, I suppose, rather than the traditional blazer and tall trousers other players went for.

When I was nine years old, living on the south side of Chicago, my father was a minister and my mother used to scrub floors. I had seven brothers and four sisters. I told my mama, ‚One of these days I’m going to be big and strong and buy you a beautiful house.‘ That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do with my life, is to take care of my mother.

I first met Bev Shea while in Chicago when he was on Moody Radio. As a young man starting my ministry, I asked Bev if he would join me. He said yes, and for over 60 years we had the privilege of ministering together across the country and around the world.

I’ve never been an intellectual but I have this look.

Fashion is one thing, but style is another.

My success comes in making fun of whatever you’re doing. That’s my way.

It’s a representation of yourself, and you can express a lot of your creativity with what your wearing.

I go to all these photo shoots, and each time I figure out something new about myself and what I want to wear.

I don’t feel very comfortable defending my fashion except to say that people don’t have to buy it. You do have to consume. You have to live. If you’ve got the money to be able to afford it, then it’s really good to buy something from me, but don’t buy too much.

A lot of people have said I’d have probably done better in my career if I hadn’t looked so cheap and gaudy. But I dress to be comfortable for me, and you shouldn’t be blamed because you want to look pretty.

I usually don’t like to ‚spoon feed‘ my audience, because I grew up idolizing story tellers who tell stories using symbolism, so it was in my nature to do the same.

Clothing & fashion are kind of my security blanket, almost.

I really focus on my jeans and sweaters for them to fit really well. There was a time that wasn’t the case.

The expression a woman wears on her face is far more important than the clothes she wears on her back.

I can simply tell you that since I was a kid, I didn’t like to look like anyone else.

Everyone looks at your watch and it represents who you are, your values and your personal style.

The reason why I wear gold – I wear gold for three reasons. One, when Jesus was born, three wise men came from the east: one brought frankincense, one brought myrrh, the other one brought gold. The second reason I wear gold is I can afford it. The third reason I wear it, it’s symbolic of my African heritage.

I like the cold weather. It means you get work done.

Fashion is here to help make people look very important. If they have good taste and choose what suits them, I give them options on how they can do that. It’s always sexy, and it’s always with the same result: making women look fantastic.

Beauty without expression is boring.

Fashion is merely an opinion. And I’ve got a lot of opinions.

I want to look my best for God. So many people have the attitude that if you’re a Christian you’ve got to dress bad, wear an old color, not do anything to your hair, have nothing. It’s no wonder that Christianity is not very attractive. I mean, how many people do you know in a Western culture that’s going to go, ‚Yeah, give me some of that?‘

I didn’t even know I needed throw pillows. That was always Brad’s thing.

I wouldn’t wear tiny amounts of clothing in my real life so I don’t think it’s necessary to wear that stuff in photo-shoots.

Even as a kid, I wore J.C. Penney plain-pocket jeans because they were plain pockets. I didn’t want anybody’s name on my backside. I personally don’t like to wear clothing that is named for somebody or has someone’s likeness all over it.

I enjoy wearing pins, and nobody tells me to do it.

I love wearing whatever is comfortable, and that could be something which was in trend years ago. So, I don’t follow fashion.

I’m not trying to be sexy. It’s just my way of expressing myself when I move around.

I love being a woman and I was not one of these women who rose through professional life by wearing men’s clothes or looking masculine. I loved wearing bright colors and being who I am.

I like to be myself, and I don’t pretend. For instance, I don’t dress up for occasions; I am what I am.

If you wear clothes that don’t suit you, you’re a fashion victim. You have to wear clothes that make you look better.

I think my style is probably more of a classic look.

Chicago gave me more music than any other city in America.

The best fashion advice I’d say would be just to do what makes you comfortable and what makes you feel cute, and that’s how you’re gonna look your best ‚cause when you feel your best, everybody else can feel it, too.

I think style is being so comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing. That’s what style is, ‚cause everybody’s got different style.
