If there are people you haven’t forgiven, you’re not going to really awaken. You have to let go.

My life is my message.

The people of Northern Ireland have sorted out my whole life.

As I followed my dream – stayed in-Spirit, that is, inspired – I made more money in the first year after I gave up my employment than I had made in the previous 35 years of my life.

Military school was great and especially great for leadership and then I spent two years in Vietnam.

I never want to change so much that people can’t recognize me.

If someone you know makes a bad decision or uses bad judgment, it doesn’t mean you have to allow that to alter your attitude. Why should you allow anyone else’s bad decisions to send you into a tailspin of misery?

Anything you put your mind to and add your imagination into can make your life a lot better and a lot more fun.

Our God is a forgiving God.

I’m like a recovering perfectionist. For me it’s one day at a time.

I think, when you are growing up, you have to pull apart from what your mother wants or needs. You’ve got to go your own way, and that’s what I did.

We will always tend to fulfill our own expectation of ourselves.

With any recovery from morbidity there must go a certain healthy humiliation.

Let each become all that he was created capable of being.

I have goals.

Follow that will and that way which experience confirms to be your own.

I believe every human has a finite number of heartbeats. I don’t intend to waste any of mine.

A man, as a general rule, owes very little to what he is born with – a man is what he makes of himself.

There’s not some idea I’m going to create a work that’s going to change everybody’s consciousness.

I just want to be just as everyone else. I want to educate myself and be just like a normal teenager.

It is impossible to underrate human intelligence – beginning with one’s own.

Sometimes you must suffer through something to defeat your fear of it.

I fear that too many have sadly surrendered their agency to the adversary and are saying by their conduct, ‚I care more about satisfying my own desires than I do about bearing the Savior’s power to bless others.‘

Self-pity in its early stage is as snug as a feather mattress. Only when it hardens does it become uncomfortable.

It is only a man’s own fundamental thoughts that have truth and life in them. For it is these that he really and completely understands. To read the thoughts of others is like taking the remains of someone else’s meal, like putting on the discarded clothes of a stranger.

You may think it was a very little thing, and in these days it seems to me like a trifle, but it was a most important incident in my life. I could scarcely credit that I, the poor boy, had earned a dollar in less than a day; that by honest work, I had earned a dollar. I was a more hopeful and thoughtful boy from that time.

You’ve got to invest in the world, you’ve got to read, you’ve got to go to art galleries, you’ve got to find out the names of plants. You’ve got to start to love the world and know about the whole genius of the human race. We’re amazing people.

We have to continue to learn. We have to be open. And we have to be ready to release our knowledge in order to come to a higher understanding of reality.

Start wide, expand further, and never look back.

It’s hard to be clear about who you are when you are carrying around a bunch of baggage from the past. I’ve learned to let go and move more quickly into the next place.

Beware of no man more than of yourself; we carry our worst enemies within us.

I remember, when I was a young guy in the SEAL teams, I was very afraid of making mistakes and looking stupid or doing dumb things and getting a bad reputation.

Send forth the child and childish man together, and blush for the pride that libels our own old happy state, and gives its title to an ugly and distorted image.

The person you consider ignorant and insignificant is the one who came from God, that he might learn bliss from grief and knowledge from gloom.

Tears shed for self are tears of weakness, but tears shed for others are a sign of strength.

There is no injustice in the grace of God. God is as just when He forgives a believer as when He casts a sinner into hell.

People want to feel hopeful.

I’ve never been a boyfriend kind of girl.

Adversity has ever been considered the state in which a man most easily becomes acquainted with himself.

Love is an interesting thing. Perhaps I’ve never been in love before – I don’t really know? I think I have. I guess it’s subjective in that way.

At the end of the day, I understand that life has road blocks, and life is like school – you’ll be tested; we gotta pass it.

I don’t see how people are comfortable with seeing other people be great. You can be happy for anybody, but what is your excuse to not want to be great? These people are great because they just say, ‚I’ma do that,‘ and they do it. That’s it. There’s no scientifical process.

But by reading them again and again finally I was able to grasp the essential part. What emotion, enthusiasm, enlightenment and confidence they communicated to me! I wept for joy.

Every man is said to have his peculiar ambition. Whether it be true or not, I can say, for one, that I have no other so great as that of being truly esteemed of my fellow-men, by rendering myself worthy of their esteem. How far I shall succeed in gratifying this ambition is yet to be developed.

You can’t forgive without loving. And I don’t mean sentimentality. I don’t mean mush. I mean having enough courage to stand up and say, ‚I forgive. I’m finished with it.‘

I’m not frightened of appearing vulnerable.

Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. If you want to take responsibility for your life, you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now. Then accept the consequences.

Let go of offence. Let go of fear. Let go of revenge. Don’t live angry, let go now!

Truth cannot be brought down; rather, the individual must make the effort to ascend to it. You cannot bring the mountaintop to the valley. If you would attain to the mountaintop, you must pass through the valley, climb the steeps, unafraid of the dangerous precipices.

Whether happiness may come or not, one should try and prepare one’s self to do without it.

When we see persons of worth, we should think of equaling them; when we see persons of a contrary character, we should turn inwards and examine ourselves.

In my next incarnation, I want to be a writer.
