A daily portion is really all we need. We do not need tomorrow’s supply, for that day has not yet dawned, and its needs are still unborn.

I’m all about evolution. I’m the first person to judge myself.

I’m 31 now. I think I’m beginning to understand what life is, what romance is, and what a relationship means.

The idea of recognising your strengths and using them in as versatile a way as you can is cool to me.

Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. When any calamity has been suffered the first thing to be remembered is, how much has been escaped.

At one point I learned transcendental meditation. This was 30-something years ago. It took me back to the way that I naturally was as a child growing up way in the country, rarely seeing people. I was in that state of oneness with creation and it was as if I didn’t exist except as a part of everything.

I have learned that as long as I hold fast to my beliefs and values – and follow my own moral compass – then the only expectations I need to live up to are my own.

Deep down, I know I have this intuition or instinct that a lot of creative people have, that their demons are also what make them create.

The Canteen Boy, the reason you feel bad for him and you can laugh is because he, and I guess a lot of my characters, they don’t notice they’re getting made fun of. So they’ll say something back that’s not that great a quip, but in their mind they won the argument.

I don’t think you should spend your life praying for things, but I do believe you should thank God for what He’s given you… but I think the scripture teaches us that we can pray for our dreams, pray for the big things… he’s not a small God; this God is incredible.

I was never particularly fond of my voice.

Know that any and all thoughts that you have regarding your own skills, interests, and inclinations are valid. To reinforce the validity of your thoughts, keep them private. Tell yourself that they’re between you and God.

Sometimes, I want to talk on a song and be angry, because I am angry. Then there’s always a part of me that remembers that this record lives past my being angry, and so do I really want to be angry about that? Is that feeling going to have longevity?

When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence.

He who gives away shall have real gain. He who subdues himself shall be free; he shall cease to be a slave of passions. The righteous man casts off evil, and by rooting out lust, bitterness, and illusion do we reach Nirvana.

Remember, we are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Don’t be afraid to see what you see.

To be idle and to be poor have always been reproaches, and therefore every man endeavors with his utmost care to hide his poverty from others, and his idleness from himself.

People don’t realize that now is all there ever is; there is no past or future except as memory or anticipation in your mind.

See how many are better off than you are, but consider how many are worse.

With mindfulness, you can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment.

Sometimes I catch myself stooping, and whenever I am like that, I am sure something is not quite right.

More compassionate mind, more sense of concern for other’s well-being, is source of happiness.
