I’m such an emotional and sensitive person, so it only makes sense that my songs are as well.

Sometimes, I want to talk on a song and be angry, because I am angry. Then there’s always a part of me that remembers that this record lives past my being angry, and so do I really want to be angry about that? Is that feeling going to have longevity?

I think ABBA have a pure joy to their music and that’s what makes them extraordinary.

I spent my entire life on one setting; that’s probably why pieces of the album feel like one long track, because that’s what my life felt like. It felt like one long song.

My experience with songwriting is usually so confessional, it’s so drawn from my own life and my own stories.

I can understand how some people might resent me for having the audacity to continue playing music, but it’d take a lot more than that to stop me from doing it. I started Foo Fighters because I didn’t want to retreat.

I have a very eclectic iPod. So I’ve got my cardio people – so it’s anything from Beyonce to some Jay-Z to Janelle Monae, her song ‚Tightrope,‘ that’s a good cardio song. And then I’ve got Sting. I’ve got Mary J. Blige. I’ve got The Beatles. I’ve got Michael Jackson. I try to pick the songs that I personally love.

It doesn’t bother me when people try to deconstruct my songs – because at least they’re looking at the lyrics, and paying attention to the way the story is told.

I’d love it if everyone knew one Foo Fighters song.

I look out at the stadiums full of people and see them all knowing the words to songs I wrote. And curling their hair! I remember straightening my hair because I wanted to be like everybody else, and now the fact that anybody would emulate what I do? It’s just funny. And wonderful.

I’ve made sure that in any situation and with any record label, I’m allowed to write my own music.

Getting a great idea with song writing is a lot like love. You don’t know why this one is different, but it is. You don’t know why this one is better, but it is. It sticks in your head, and you can’t stop thinking about it.

It’s impossible to live a life totally free of feelings. God created all of us to be emotional creatures, and feelings are a big part of our lives.

But when I hear a great song, I can’t help but be inspired by it, regardless of whatever genre that song falls under.

So many girls come up and say to me, ‚I have never listened to country music in my life. I didn’t even know my town had a country-music station. Then I got your record, and now I’m obsessed.‘ That’s the coolest compliment to me.

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

I can play a lot of different instruments adequately but nothing really well.

I sang a lot of low stuff on songs like ‚Secrets‘ and ‚Rockin‘,‘ almost like Toni Braxton. On ‚Secrets,‘ I’m a different person.

I’m not a supermodel. That’s not what I do. What I do is music. I want my fans to feel the way I do, to know what they have to offer is just as important, more important, than what’s happening on the outside.

What loneliness is more lonely than distrust?

I definitely think, generally, rap is misogynistic.

I don’t know how the rap game is, because I’m a fan of reality, and the rap game’s entertainment.

Tupac, Biggie, Jay. Your usual suspects. These were the people that was played in my household.

Anything that encourages people to pick up an instrument and play, I’m fully behind.

I’m not going to make a song just to make a song. The day that I make an album, it’s so that people really know what Bad Bunny’s about.

The album requires a certain focus of mine that I can’t really explain – let’s just say it’s all I can really do while I’m doing it.
